On March 10, some followers of Azimio la Umoja escaped the police checkpoints set up along State Lodge Road in Milimani Estate, Kisumu County.

"Ruto must go," the supporters chanted as they drew near the police officers at the barricade.

The fans were seen chanting, "Ruto must go", as they approached the police stationed at the barricade.

The police gathered as the supporters pushed ahead to reach the driveway leading to the President's official residence.

Some fans grabbed the yellow spiked barriers and fled with them during the push-and-pull.

Also observed attempting to recover the barrier was a police officer. He was, however, beaten down by the crowd.


To stop the rushing throng from crossing over, several officers chose to stay at the crucial intersection leading to the State Lodge.

The supporters who remained behind continued to lament the high cost of living on the road leading to Milimani Estate. They all had banners and platters in their hands.

Notably, there were no ongoing fights, and no tear gas was utilized.

Some supporters knelt down during the demonstrations and claimed to be doing so peacefully.

The group had begun their protests at Kondele and travelled through the Central Business District to the State Lodge Road (CBD).

The event occurred just one day after Raila Odinga, a former prime minister, called for widespread protests against the government over the high cost of living. Raila had said the demonstration would start on March 20.


Security was stepped up on Tuesday, March 7, at all State Lodges nationwide, including the Kisumu branch, in preparation for the protests.
