To reach its goal of enfolding annual revenue from the digital platform, the government has expanded the number of services offered by e-Citizen to nearly 5,000.

Senior Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services Julius Bitok stated that 5,318 services are now accessible via mobile devices. The government hopes to double that number by the middle of the year.

Marriage certificates are among the services that may now be ordered online, according to the PS., after registering mutual consent on a phone or other electronic device.

Marriages are one of the services that have moved online. If you want to get married, you may now apply for a marriage license using your phone, attend interviews and receive your marriage license online, according to Prof. Bitok.

When he spoke in Nakuru, a workshop on the digitalization of services by national and county government ministries and agencies and onboarding them to the e-Citizen platform was being closed out.

Telecommunications companies led by Safaricom and suppliers of digital services platforms also joined the three-week summit.

In addition to ease, the e-Citizen platform, according to Bitok, will offer services at a lower cost because it will eliminate travel expenses and the need for in-person visits to government facilities.

"Reducing the cost of government services to citizens is one of the significant advantages of digitalization. For instance, you may now access the benefits from the convenience of your phone rather than riding a matatu from point A to point B and spending 200 to go and the same amount to arrive".

The government expects the digitalization effort to raise around Ksh80 million daily eCitizen income collection by more than ten times to hit Ksh1 billion daily, in addition to the personal benefits to residents using the services.

"The other benefit is that by eliminating leakages, revenue will increase. We are currently raising about Ksh80M each day with 300 services. We intend to increase this by more than ten times to approximately Ksh1B daily now that we have 5,000 services".

Making it more straightforward for people to obtain government services, President William Ruto had instructed the directorate of e-Citizens under the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services to ensure that more than 5,000 services are digitized.
