Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has urged Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio La Umoja one Kenya Coalition, to think about calling off nationwide protests.
The leader of the Azimio group declared that they would hold demonstrations twice a week to draw attention to the issues they had brought up, including the requirement to lower living expenses.
All this occurs as the nation's Muslims prepare to observe the holy month of Ramadan beginning on Thursday.
Deputy Chief Kadhi Sheikh Sukyan Hasan declared the beginning of their holy month after the moon was seen in some regions of the nation, including Mandera, Wajir, and Tana River Counties.

The former governor claims the nation's Muslims will be insulted by the current demonstrations against President William Ruto's administration.
With all due respect, please allow me to ask you to show some consideration for our Muslim brothers and sisters who will begin to observe the holy month of Ramadan today for some and tomorrow for others, Sonko said.
He asserted that given their preference for politics over religion, the former prime minister's immediate Muslim leaders might not be confident enough to ask him.

According to the former governor, protests in the streets will disrupt Muslims' prayers during the holy month of Ramadan because they must visit the mosque and pray five times a day.
"Hon. Former Prime Minister, aside from keeping the peace and praying, they also refrain from eating, drinking, and engaging in sexual activity from before sunrise till sundown."
Sonko added that rather than making the poor suffer due to protests, Muslims should practice charity and show love for the underprivileged.
A group of Azimio leaders informed Mr Adamson Bungei, the Nairobi Police Regional Commander, of the upcoming protest on Wednesday by presenting him with their petition.
The Police Commander, however, claimed that the letter was delivered to the incorrect office.
According to Mr Bungei, Azimio must give the letter to the OCS of the police station in charge of the neighbourhood where they plan to hold their parade the following week.
