Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed his first salary as a public servant, which he received in February 1989.
She spoke on Friday at the KICC during the launch of the Public Service Commission's value and principles compliance report 2021-2022, which was presided over by President William Ruto.
The DP stated that his path to his current position began at the Public Service Commission.
"On January 16, 1989, I joined the public service as a District Officer Cadet, earning Sh3,230... This is a good start; take advantage of the opportunity to learn, and one day you will be someone in this country; it is possible," Gachagua said.

He urged the 3,902 interns indicted into public service to take their roles seriously, as they could lead to lucrative positions such as his current one, where he earns more.
"The government sector is a place for growth and development...
You need not go far to locate a small man who once worked as an assistant secretary cadet getting paid ShSh3,230 per month and is now Kenya's Deputy President."
According to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission's (SRC) improved package released last year in preparation for the election, the President's salary increased by Sh227, 560, while the Deputy President's salary increased by Sh190, 875.
It means that the current President receives Sh1.443,750 monthly, while his deputy, Mr Gachagua, receives Sh1.227,188.
Cabinet Secretaries, Attorney General, and Cabinet Secretary will also be paid Sh924, 00, while Members of County Assemblies (MCA) will be paid Sh144, 375.
After being chosen as the President's running mate during the Kenya Kwanza Alliance campaigns, the DP served as Mathira Constituency Member of Parliament for one term.
He served as a District Officer under the old Constitution during ex-president Moi's rule.
