Police Inspector General Japhet Koome has promised Kenyans they will be safe during the Easter vacation as they congregate in various country areas to celebrate.
In a statement issued on Thursday, IG Koome stated that he had increased surveillance and implemented adequate security measures.
He added that officers would be sufficiently deployed on critical roadways, retail malls, airports, train and bus stops, places of worship, and leisure centres.
"As we approach the Easter holiday, it is anticipated that there will be heavy traffic on our roads across the country, as well as vacated homes," Koome said in part of the statement.

"We are increasing patrols and observation on highways, commercial and residential areas, social places and near churches in collaboration with other national security agencies to maintain calm and tranquility and reduce traffic accidents during this festive season."
However, the chief of police was quick to remind us that records show that many road accidents are always recorded during the holidays, which has remained a significant cause of injuries and fatalities.
As a result, he asked all motorists to use caution on the roadways and follow all traffic laws.
"We urge all road users to obey traffic laws by wearing seat belts, obeying speed limits, avoid overloading and reckless driving, driving while texting, and driving unsafe vehicles," he said.
He also advised vehicles to be cautious because certain roads may be inundated due to the current rainfall.
IG Koome also warned reckless drivers driving while under the influence of intoxicating substances that they will be caught.
"We would like to reiterate that those caught driving while intoxicated (under the influence of liquor or other psychotropic substances) will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law."
Easter celebrations begin on Friday, April 7, and conclude on Monday, April 10.
