Following a public outcry, Kisii Governor Simba Arati sacked two heads of the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

Governor Arati invaded the facility on Tuesday and claimed the two officials were disrupting mortuary operations.

"I have sent two people in charge of the mortuary away for failing to carry out their duties diligently." "I've told them to leave because they're doing nothing here," remarked the Governor.

The county executive also accused the two of being corrupt after receiving public funds to clean the bodies of their loved ones.

"These people were being paid to clean bodies. "They even get paid for deaths in the morgue," he explained.

Governor Arati further stated that new mortuary attendants had been hired to replace those who had been let go.

"We have brought in mortuary attendants from one of the best mortuaries in the country to manage and restore order in the facility," he said.

The mortuary at the hospital has over 220 bodies instead of the usual 72. Furthermore, the Governor stated that his administration had allocated Ksh.2 million to restore the ancient building to be utilized as a morgue.

"I've also directed the CEO to spend Ksh.2 million renovating the old mortuary so that it can house and handle all unclaimed bodies," Arati said.
