Eric Wamumbi of Mathira Constituency and Betty Maina of Murang'a County Woman Representative is poised to marry two years after meeting on the campaign trail before the August 2022 General Election.

Wamumbi proposed to Betty over the weekend, putting the two lovebirds in the advanced phases of their relationship. Betty accepted the request and flaunted it on social media.

Among those who witnessed the proposal were Susan Kihika (Nakuru), Governors Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), and Nominated Senator Veronicah Maina were among those who witnessed the proposal.

Betty turned to social media to show off her new ring, thanking everyone who came out for the event, especially her soon-to-be husband.

"One day at a time sweet Jesus. He makes all things beautiful in his own time. Thanks my sisters for organising this wonderful surprise. My dear Eric, you rock!" Betty said.

Eric, for one, posted many photos from the ceremony with the message, "And out of love, she said yes!"

Following the proposal, Wamumbi plans to visit Betty's home on Saturday, where he will meet with her parents and clan to table an official proposal to marry her.

The Mathira member told Citizen Digital that he has been dating Betty for two years after meeting on the campaign trail when both were running for parliament.

Wamumbi was the Member of Parliament for Konyo Ward in Mathira, Nyeri County, and was set to defend his position when President William Ruto chose Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate.

When Gachagua dropped out of the Mathira MP seat, Wamumbi, who had gained the respect of Ruto and Gachagua by being the sole MCA in Nyeri County to oppose the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), was an easy choice.

Ruto and Gachagua did endorse him on one of their campaign stops in Nyeri.

Betty previously worked as a director at Athi Water Company. She began politics through the Jubilee party but swiftly switched to the UDA after reading the sentiment on the ground.

She would eventually win the seat and join Wamumbi in Parliament. This must have solidified their love, which had begun on the campaign path.

The two prepare to make history as the first serving members of Kenya's parliament to marry.
