Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Sunday honored as a peace champion in Addis Ababa, for leading the peaceful settlement of the conflict in the northern part of Ethiopia.
Speaking at the event, Uhuru commended the people of Ethiopia for their commitment to finding lasting peace in the Northern region.
"The commitment shown and the leadership of the African Union has indeed proved that Africa can work out her problems, and what has happened in Ethiopia is a testimony that Africa can work out its problems," he said.
Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president of Nigeria, and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the former vice president of South Africa, also received awards alongside the former head of state.

The Ethiopian government organized the awards ceremony to reflect on the peace process that was overseen by the African Union and owned by Ethiopia.
Obasanjo also praised the Ethiopian people and all parties who contributed to the establishment of long-lasting peace in the nation's Northern Region.
He specifically commended the High-Level panel's appointees for their dedication to the process as well as African Union Commission chair Moussa Faki for entrusting them with such a sensitive responsibility.
Along with other government and Tigray authorities, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and interim Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) President Getachew Reda attended the awards ceremony.
