Three individuals, including a couple, were killed in their home in Homa Bay County on Sunday night during heavy rains.

A man and his wife were killed after being struck by lightning, but his two daughters escaped at Aluor Village, Lambwe East Suba constituency.

In a report by Benard Ouma, Chief of Lambwe East Location, the married couple watched TV when lightning struck, killing them instantly. Lightning also severed electrical wires from a solar panel on their roof, according to Ouma.

The couple's two girls, ages six and four, escaped the tragedy and were discovered sleeping on the chairs the following day. According to the administrator, lightning also killed a bull on the homestead.

In the other case, after severe rainfall, a 38-year-old man named Fred Otieno was killed by flood water near Kodero Beach in Rachuonyo North Sub-county.

Samuel Osendo, the chairman of Beach Management Units in West Karachuonyo ward, said Otieno was climbing a hill when he encountered the horror.

In other news, residents of Ofunyu hamlet in Kolwa, Kisumu East Constituency, incurred significant losses on Monday due to a severe downpour. The rains caused flooding across a large area, impacting economic activity and livelihoods.

Furthermore, two classrooms, an office, and a teacher's house at Kibaga Primary School in the same ward were destroyed by high winds.

According to the headteacher Stephen Obel, study items such as books and laptop computers were also damaged in the event.

He has asked local leaders and well-wishers to come to their aid.
