Mukami Kimathi, the widow of liberation fighter Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi, has died.
The 96-year-old died while receiving care at a Nairobi hospital after experiencing breathing issues.
According to her daughter, Evelyn Kimathi Wangui, she died on Thursday night.
During the independence movement, Mukami was one of the Mau Mau liberation fighters imprisoned at the Kamiti Maximum Prison.
She was a crucial figure in the campaign that led to Kenya's independence from colonialists.
