Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki warned politicians on Sunday to avoid the Shakola area, which had been closed following a security operation to probe the murders of over a hundred suspected cult members.
The CS stated in his directive, issued two days after the opposition leader, Raila Odinga, was turned away from the cult burial site in Kilifi County, that the only political leaders permitted are members of the parliamentary security committee.
Kindiki said he granted the National Assembly Security Committee access to Shakahola because it is a security operation zone in which Parliament has a role. Adding that other politicians should keep off the cult's burial site and not bring politics into the matter
On Friday, Odinga was refused access to the area, a day before pledging to go to court to challenge President William Ruto's decision to appoint a religious commission of investigation into the starving cult.
