On Saturday, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg competed in his first jiu-jitsu martial arts tournament and won silver and gold medals, according to a post on social media.

The tournament occurred at Woodside High School in California, near the Silicon Valley offices of Zuckerberg's firm, Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

"Competed in my first jiu-jitsu tournament and won some medals for the Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu team," Zuckerberg said on Facebook and Instagram.

During the coronavirus outbreak, the 38-year-old software billionaire began studying martial arts. He told an interviewer last year.

He told podcaster Joe Rogan that the "primal" character of the sport helps him raise his energy level and confront work obstacles.

Zuckerberg works out with instructor Dave Camarillo, who has trained multiple UFC MMA champions.

Brazilian-style jiu-jitsu, unlike MMA, emphasizes battling opponents through holds and control rather than kicks or hitting.

Khai "The Shadow" Wu, another coach, congratulated the tycoon.

"Watching Zuck compete yesterday was pretty epic." Nothing was simple, and everything had to be earned. "It was an honor to be able to assist with coaching and offer any advice I could," Wu wrote on Instagram.

According to a social media video, Zuckerberg appeared to aggressively challenge a ref's call after losing a battle with an opponent during the event.

The video concludes with Zuckerberg hugging his adversary.
