The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions introduced an online complaint and case review portal for Kenyans.

The platform, dubbed the Malalamishi System, allows members of the public to file a criminal complaint with the ODPP and anonymous reporting via the Complaints Module.

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji said during the system's introduction on Monday at the Nairobi Remand Industrial Area that it would allow for whistleblowers and make it easier to trace the status of a complaint because a reference number is assigned.

"The case review module allows members of the public to request that the ODPP review their cases." "Requests are assigned reference numbers to make tracking progress easier," Haji explained.

Overall, the Malalamishi System is designed to assist the ODPP in giving members of the public seamless access to all hours of the day and night and swiftly looking for complaints and case evaluations.

Simultaneously, the ODPP created the All for Justice program, which aims to decongest jails and reduce case backlogs in courts nationwide.

The Alliance for Justice Phase I project began in 2018 to investigate the causes of criminal case delays, which resulted in prison overcrowding.

"This Phase was impactful in that it hastened the expedition of cases, reduced case backlog, and reduced the amount of remandees from 46% of the prison population to 41%," the DPP said.

According to DPP Haji, the second phase would also ensure that the prosecution service is more attentive to the requirements of the mwananchi, providing reminders with a second chance to reform and be reintegrated back into society.

"By implementing plea bargaining and diversion policies, the project will help save money that would have been spent by all parties involved if a case went to full trial." stated the DPP.
