Kenyans have responded on Twitter to the car in which Chief Justice Martha Koome was chauffeured to the Madaraka Day celebrations in Embu.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 GR sport has generated internet debate, with some questioning why she is using the vehicle since the government is allegedly broke.

Outspoken lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi claimed it was ludicrous for an impoverished third-world country with children sleeping without food to spend $500,000 on a car.

In November 2019, former Chief Justice David Maraga told the media that buying fancy cars is a waste of public cash regarding the judiciary.

Maraga claims he has been mistreated for far too long.

"We were told that the CJ does not have a Mercedes car because it is a waste of money, but the two Speakers of the National Assembly do." "I have a Mercedes 350, which many people can afford, whereas the speakers of both houses have Mercedes 500," he explained.

"I've never owned a Mercedes, and I'm not bothered." Allow the office to be regarded similarly to the speakers' and Uhuru's offices. We should not be treated as illegitimate children."
