An old video of President William Ruto recounting how he was turned down by a lady he was chasing because he was broke at the time has resurfaced on TikTok, generating a variety of emotions from netizens.
In the video, the now-president can be seen conversing with creative director, producer, and digital content creator Abel Mutua.
H.E. Ruto shared a humorous story about how his former crush destroyed his heart.
The president remembers shooting at the daughter of a driver considered wealthy then, but the girl refused to see him since young Ruto was not wealthy.
"Tunataka kujua kuna dame umwewahi kujaribu kukatia mahali akakukataa, (have you ever hit on a girl and she turned you down)?" Abel Mutua inquired, broke out laughing.

Laughing with Abel, Ruto wondered why he was putting him on the spot, adding, "Sasa wewe unataka kuniweka kwa spot watu wanijue?"
But Abel, with his customary charm, pressed the president for an answer, adding that now that it appears that there is a female, he'd like to know what the president would say to her if their paths met again.
"Kwanza wacha nikueleze, nilikuwa form 1 ni dereva na unajua kidogo walikuwa huko juu."
Alinionyesha dust, sasa mimi kujaribu kumwahi pale, aaah vipi akanishangaa sana. Niliskia vibaya joh sana. We are hufai bana.
(I was in form one, and I had a love for this lady whose father was a driver, and you know how well off they were at the time. I tried hitting on her, but she turned me down and told me I couldn't get her; I was highly wounded)," H.E. Ruto honestly recalled to Abel his earlier years.
The two then made fun of the president at the time, 'hakuwa anatosha mboga,' with the director turning the situation into light-hearted banter.
President William Ruto confessed that their paths had indeed crossed after he finished his studies and was hustling here and there.
He went on to say that his then-girlfriend had ended up marrying and staying in the hamlet.
"Nishamkuta, lakini sio nyuma pale baada ya mimi kumaliza chuo." Mama wa kule tu village kwa mbali aliolewa pale kwa village.
He boasted, "Na ananiheshimu kwamba huyu jamaa niliona kidogo amelega kumbe sasa ni jamaa wa nguvu."
Abel laughed, and the president couldn't help but chuckle as well, marvelling at how he ended up better off and with a brighter future.
"Unafaa mutate umbuiye kakuku alafu umpee lift kwa hii hustler slide hapa umwembaie haina hapa umwembaie haina worse," Abel warned.
"Safi safi nimekusikia," the president responded, laughing.
