John Njue Njiru, the Deputy Speaker of Kiambu County, is presently under police custody following allegations of soliciting a bribe amounting to Ksh.130,000. Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) successfully apprehended Njiru, who also serves as the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for the Hospital Ward in Thika.

The panel found that in order to "facilitate" and let a woman in Thika to carry out any activity on her Ksh. 15 million land, the MCA required a bribe as well as a free chunk of her prime land.

Anti-graft investigators are now questioning Mr. Njiru at the Integrity Centre Police Station.
