The 592-page report seen by the Associated Press claims that Kenyan police gave conflicting reports on what happened on the night of the incident.
While in Kenya, Arshad was living with Khurram and Waqar Ahmed, brothers. The two have been charged with involvement in his killing by an Islamabad court.
Khurram was in the car with Arshad, and they were travelling home after dinner when they came across the roadblock. He sped off, thinking that robbers had set it up, and that is when the police started shooting.
Khurram allegedly kept driving to the family farm at his brother's advice, where upon reaching the farm, he discovered that Arshad had been shot and was no longer alive. the report disputes this account, alleging that the shooting happened at a close distance.
The brothers have not spoken, but their lawyers have said that they are scared for their lives" "were not involved and that they're also fearing for their lives", Webb said.
News of sharifs death was met with much grief, people terming it a significant loss to journalism and Pakistan. Many people attended his funeral, including Pakistans ex Price Minister Imran khan. Reports indicate that Kenyan police were instruments in this targeted assassination.
