The vehicle was on its way to Kericho when it lost control and went off the road, colliding with dozens of hawkers on the Nakuru-Kericho route.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck's driver attempted to avoid colliding with a parked bus on the road after experiencing a technical hitch before losing control. Several Nissan matatus were severely damaged in the evening crash.

According to Londiani OCPD Agnes Kunga, the rescue is ongoing, with several bodies still trapped inside vehicles and several under the truck.

More than 60 people have been brought to hospitals in Londiani, Kericho, and Nakuru, where they are treated.

Rescue attempts have been hampered by heavy rains seen at the location. According to the OCPD, casualties could be higher, but the competent authorities will provide a comprehensive briefing later.
