President William Ruto has rejected the Compensation and Remuneration Commission's (SRC) recent recommendation to raise compensation for crucial government personnel.
President Ruto poured cold water on the suggestion on Friday at the KICC during the introduction of digital government services, claiming that the wage disparity between low-wage and high-wage public officials is enormous and should be narrowed.
As a result, he rejected the idea of raising the wages of the President, Deputy President, Cabinet Secretaries, Members of Parliament, and other top officials.
President Ruto stated that he had asked the SRC to devise methods to standardize government officials' wages to meet worldwide standards.

"For other State officers, myself, my deputy, ministers, PSs na wale wadosi wengine wa Bunge, sisi mambo yetu tungojee tafadhali, sisi mambo yetu tungojee tafadhali." "Hiyo mshahara itakwama hapo," he said
"I have directed the SRC to provide us with international best practices to bridge the gap between all of us who work for the people of Kenya." We must ensure that the wage disparity between the lowest and highest paid workers is minimal because we are all workers."
According to the President, it is unjust for one public employee to be paid 100 times more than another in the same administration, and the committee should work to strike a balance.
He said that those at the top couldn't earn 100 times more than those at the bottom, yet they live in the same nation, eat the same foods, and shop at the same stores.
On the other hand, President Ruto authorized a similar plan by SRC to raise the salary of lower-level federal officials by 7-10% beginning July 1, 2023.
According to the Head of State, the country's challenging economic conditions prompted the action, and the increase is intended to cushion workers.
He further claimed that the change would affect government officials below the level of Principal Secretary and teachers, police officers, and military officers.
