The Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) detectives have rooted out a notorious motorcycle theft syndicate between Kenya and Tanzania.
According to the DCI, an extensive investigation led them to uncover the well-organized criminal gang responsible for the rampant disappearance of motorcycles in various towns across the country.
After sneakily crossing the border, the stolen motorcycles are delivered to Loitoktok town.
Agnes Wambui, allegedly the main player utilised to lure unwary boda-boda riders, was the first person detained by authorities.
As a pillion passenger, Wambui would lure her victims into a trance throughout the trip, and then take off on motorcycles after they were unconscious.
“Posing as a pillion passenger, Wambui stupefies her victims along the way before disappearing with the motorbikes, once the nduthimen loses consciousness,” the DCI said.
Following further inquiries, the DCI identified additional conspirators on the suspect's trail, including William Nkadanyo, known as "Saningo," and Daniel Mwaniki.
In Loitoktok town, where it is thought he had a ready market for the stolen motorcycles, Nkadanyo was apprehended.
The police claimed that during the arrests, they retrieved stolen cellphones, one of which was taken from a motorbike rider who had been the victim of the identical stupefying strategy employed by Wambui.
Injuries took place in Juja, Kiambu County.
Furthermore, the arrested defendants' possession included approximately 30 tablets that were likely stupefying substances.
Investigations also revealed that some of these people had active criminal charges in the Kwale County town of Diani and the Kajiado County towns of Ongata Rongai.
