After being found unconscious at a hotel in Murang'a County, a Catholic priest who worked as the parish priest at St. Peter's Church in Ruai has been confirmed dead.
Fr. Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku, 43, and a 32-year-old woman checked into the hotel on Friday night, according to a police complaint.
It stated, in part, that "One Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku a k/m/a, aged 43yrs, a Catholic priest at the Archdiocese of Nairobi and a farmer at Mangu area checkedin at the said hotel together with his girlfriend who also happens to be her coworker at the workplace in Ruai."
The woman allegedly informed the hotel's management that Kariuki was becoming unsteady and unconscious around 8 a.m. on Saturday, necessitating a trip to a neighbouring hospital.

The story continued, "They then took him to Kenol hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival while still aboard his car, a black Toyota Harrier.
According to the police, Fr. Karuki's body was discovered with a hotel bed sheet partially covering it and white foam oozing from the lips and nostrils.
The body has been transferred to the Nairobi Mater Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy and additional police action.
