One person has died after a violent crash between two communities at Sondu in the border of Kericho and Kisumu Counties during Wednesday's anti-government protests.

Four others, including a police officer, are hospitalized at Sigowet Sub County hospital in Sigowet/Soin sub-county.

During the altercation, the dead were cut in the head and then stabbed in the neck, according to a hospital employee from Sigowet Sub County who requested anonymity.

He claimed that two further people were arrow-shot and taken to the hospital with arrows still embedded in their bodies.

After being stoned by the protesters, a senior police officer assigned to the Sondu Police Station suffered injuries.

'Tumechoka' Maandamano demonstrators from the Kisumu side crossed the border and invaded the Kericho County area, where they started robbing and vandalising businesses, which led to the clash.

Police were sent to the trading centre to repel them, but when they were overpowered, the youngsters from the opposite side were forced to arm themselves with bows and arrows and begin repelling their neighbours.

The victim was caught up in the chaos, stabbed and attacked with a knife before being saved and sent to the hospital, where he was declared dead when he arrived.

One of the individuals with an arrow stuck in his back is receiving medical attention at the theatre.

As security agents have been bolstered to restore peace, tension is at an all-time high in Sondu.
