Three people in Kisumu were shot dead on Wednesday as police battled with demonstrators in anti-government protests called by opposition leader Raila Odinga.
According to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital Chief Executive Officer George Rae, two dead bodies are at the hospital’s morgue. At the same time, one was said to have been taken to a private hospital by locals.
“Two bodies have been recorded at the morgue with gunshot wounds,” he said.
Further, fourteen other people-all men-were admitted to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
On Wednesday evening, Azimio la Umoja Coalition Leader Raila Odinga vowed that anti-government protests over the high cost of living will continue as planned Thursday.

“We will continue our with our peaceful demonstrations as planned. But we will stop at 5pm today and resume tomorrow (Thursday) morning,” he said.
On his part, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki confirmed that the more than 300 people arrested during the demonstrations in various towns are set to face charges.
“More than 300 people have been arrested across the country and will be charged with various crimes, including looting, malicious damage of property, arson, robbery with violence, assaulting law enforcers among other crimes,” Kindiki said.
In a joint statement, Kindiki and his Education counterpart Ezekiel Machogu ordered the re-opening of schools which remained closed Wednesday over the riots.
“The government has now undertaken an evaluation of the current security situation in various parts of the country including in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu counties and adequate measures have been taken to guarantee the safety and security of learners and their schools across the country,” they said.
