At least twenty people drowned in Lake Victoria on Wednesday morning when the boat they were travelling in capsized due to strong winds.
Joshua Wafumbwa, a councillor representing Kyamuswa Sub County in Kalangala District, noted that the boat was ferrying approximately 30 passengers and cargo.
It was en route to the Kasenyi landing site near Entebbe in Wakiso District from the Lwanabatya landing site in Kalangala District, Uganda.
It keeled over around Nsazi Island in Mukono District on Lake Victoria.
Further, Wafumbwa says ten of the passengers were rescued by fishermen near the incident scene.

The fate of the other passengers remains unknown, but efforts to rescue them are ongoing.
"We have already alerted the marine police on the lake, and all efforts are being made to save those who are still alive," Wafumbwa said.
In recent weeks, more instances of boats have been capsizing on the lake.
A boat capsized in the lake in July, carrying 11 people, 100 bags of charcoal, 40 bags of silverfish, and personal items.
Between Jana and Kimmi, the boat, travelling from the Kiseba Islands to Katosi in Mukono, capsized.
Six people were saved by a different cargo boat, but five perished in the tragedy.
