A police officer from Tutwa police station, Harrison Gitonga Kanake, and a civilian identified as Hassan Galgalo were arrested in Meru for having Kes 12,000,000 elephant tusks.
Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) security team intercepted a vehicle they were using on Saturday morning with 23 pieces of Elephant Tusks hidden in bags, all weighing 79.6kgs.
A pair of handcuffs and one police baton were also recovered.
The two suspects were detained pending charges of having wildlife trophies of endangered species which is contrary to section 92(4) of the Wildlife Conservation Management Act 2013.
