Jackson Mandago, a senator from Uasin Gishu and a former governor, was detained in Eldoret on suspicion of involvement in the manipulation of the Ksh1 billion Finland and Canada scholarship controversy.

Following allegations that he planned to deceive parents in the program that resulted in sobs from many parents and students, the former governor was summoned from his Eldoret house.

Reportedly, the Senator's statement was promptly taken to the Nakuru Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office.
After being questioned at the Kiambu Directorate headquarters on Thursday, August 10, the legislator is currently providing a statement to the DCI for the second time.

Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago preesented himself to the EACC Integrity Centre on August 1, 2023. Just before his arrest, President William Ruto made a clear statement that he would not provide protection for anyone implicated in the scholarship scam.
In an official statement, the police reported that they had been making efforts to apprehend the Senator since the previous day.
This was despite the lawmaker making a public statement that he had not gone into hiding and was ready to aid police officers in any investigations.
While Mandago continues to maintain his innocence in the saga, Ruto assured residents of Uasin Gishu that they would be returned the money they lost to the last coin.

"It's embarrassing for anyone to steal money meant for the education of young people in Uasin Gishu," the President stated while promising not to interfere with police investigations.

Hours before his arrest, Mandago stated that he had met with the leadership of parents demanding refunds and agreed on the way forward.
Mercy Tarus, one of the students who lost millions in the scholarship saga on Wednesday, August 16, announced that no one had been compensated yet despite Mandago's declaration.

She radiated hope during a live conversation with Kenyans that those who took advantage of helpless students and their parents will be held accountable.
Along with Joseph Kipkemoi Maritim, Meshak Rono, and Joshua Kipkemoi Lelei, Mandago is charged with plotting to steal Ksh1 billion from the Uasin Gishu Education Trust Fund, which was meant to be used to fly students to study abroad.
