After their patient allegedly fell from the hospital's fifth floor, a family from Kathaka hamlet in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, is demanding answers from Kerugoya Referral Hospital administration.

The family, led by the deceased's brother James Murimi, claims to have learned of John Muchomba's passing on Sunday, August 12.

We were astonished when hospital administration informed us that John's body had fallen from the fifth floor and was in the mortuary, according to Muriuki.

A postmortem revealed the patient committed suicide by jumping from the hospital's balcony, according to the authorities.

"We need to know if this was suicide. Why were we not informed that we discovered him at the mortuary that evening? Muriuki inquired.

Police have started an inquiry, according to John Torori, the head of Kirinyaga Central Sub-County Police.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is looking into the situation, according to Torori.

Stanley Muriithi, the county health officer, declined to comment when approached and claimed that police were handling the situation.

The police are handling the situation. You can ask the hospital manager or the Kerugoya police station about it, said Muriithi in a text message to Citizen Digital.

Muchomba was buried on Monday at Kathaka hamlet, where neighbours and family members alleged carelessness on the part of the hospital administration.

"How tragic. The deceased's brother, Stephen Gacheru, said, "We were taking him there knowing they would care for our patient.
