The debate on whether to ban tiktok in Kenya has been raging for the past few weeks due to the kind of content broadcasted on the app in the wee hours.

It is very common to find content creators using the once-jolly app to conduct illicit activities like those you expect to get on only fans. While some kenyans fully support the ban, citing that it leads to moral decadence, those who oppose the ban claim that people only see what interests them due to how algorithms work.

Yup and I know what you see is the normal vids but when you switch to LIVE vids (from 10pm onwards) then you’ll see 🇰🇪children, men/ women exposing themselves…really filthy stuff 😔😏, when I came home 🇬🇧🇦🇺 the LIVE vids are normal stuff

One tiktok user, Chesoni, who runs his 'tambiro' selling business on the app, said that he does not regret what he is doing because he makes over ksh 45000 daily. Chesoni says that doing what he does has completely changed his life, and he has no plans to stop anytime soon.

He adds that people should do what makes them happy and that he appreciates his big private part and has no shame using it to make a living.

Another user, mary_wa_tamu, is famous for going live past midnight and engaging in sexual acts on her live and also asking kenyans to get her number for private sessions. The user even says that sometimes she 'nyongas' for free but has offers on other occasions.

The rot that goes on on tiktok after midnight goes deeper, and some things are too vile to be explained. This prompted a Kenyan Chief Executive Officer to file a petition to ban or regulate the app in the country.

After receiving the petition, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula said that the petition decries that while it has gained popularity among the youths in Kenya, the content that is being shared on the platform is inappropriate, thus promoting violence, explicit sexual content, hate speech, vulgar language, and offensive behaviour which is a severe threat to the cultural and religious views of Kenya.

Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale had a different opinion, opposing the ban on the famous app, saying it is not viable.

"So somebody wants Parliament to ban Tik-tok? A fat waste of time! Kenya does not have its own unique locus on the Internet, which Parliamentary legislation can ring fence and lock. If u don't like tik-tok, deny ua kids access to a smartphone or computer, IF U CAN." Khalwale tweeted
