According to US authorities in Massachusetts on Tuesday, a lady who had been missing for more than a week was discovered alive after being stuck in the mud in a state park for at least five days.

According to a joint statement from local officials engaged in the rescue, Emma Tetewsky, 31, was discovered in a swampy region of Borderland State Park by hikers who heard her calls for help.

On June 25, she was last spotted just outside the park, some 30 miles (50 kilometers) south of Boston.

The mucky circumstances initially hampered rescues, necessitating the deployment of all-terrain vehicles.

Officers from the nearby town of Easton arrived at the densely wooded park and "waded 50 feet from the shore, through thick brush and swamp, to reach Tetewsky," according to the statement.

Officers "blindly jumped into the water and followed the woman's calls for help," according to Easton Police Chief Keith Boone.

According to the joint statement, Tetewsky may have been trapped in the muck for at least three days.

According to authorities, Tetewsky was taken to the hospital with serious injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
