Several roads in Uganda's capital, Kampala, will be closed on Friday to commemorate President Yoweri Museveni's 79th birthday.
Senior Superintendent Godwin Arinaitwe, the Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police Commander, issued the traffic directive on Thursday, stating that the celebration, which would be held at the Kololo independence grounds, is expected to draw 100,000 people.
“We are expecting around 100, 000 guests who will be coming from different parts of the country. We appeal to the guest public to be vigilant but also follow the traffic guidelines we have temporary disruptions to traffic flow,” Arinaitwe was quoted as saying by the Nile Post.
The Golf Course traffic lights approaching Acacia Avenue, according to the police chief, would be accessible. Still, automobiles would be prohibited from using Upper Kololo Terrace, Elgon Terrace, and Lower Kololo Terrace, designated for VVIPs.

Road users from Bombo Road have been sent to Old Kira Road, the Lugogo bypass, and the KCCA grounds near Shoprite, while those from Jinja Park have been directed to the UMA showgrounds.
"If you're coming from Entebbe, you can take Kampala Road, Jinja Road traffic lights, the Lugogo bypass, and then pass through the KCCA grounds." Those traveling from Nansana can use Yusuf Lule Road, Golf Course traffic lights, Nakumatt, Jinja Road traffic lights, Wampeewo roundabout, and park at the KCCA grounds or UMA show grounds," Arinaitwe explained.
Traffic traveling from Prince Charles Drive to the main route would be detoured past Archer Route Junction and the Jinja Road police station.
As a result, the police chief advised road users in the impacted areas to heed the traffic advice to avoid inconvenience.
The much-publicized birthday celebrations are believed to have been organized by a group of young people led by Hadijah Uzeiye Namyalo, the National Coordinator in the Office of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party's National Chairman.
