Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has criticized President William Ruto and his government for failing to keep promises made to Kenyans when they were sworn in.

In reviewing their one-year performance in office, Osotsi stated that they had more misses than hits in reaching their lofty promises to ease Kenyans' problems.

Speaking on Citizen TV's Daybreak broadcast, he claimed that the government had broken its promises and worsened Kenyans' lives.

Dissecting the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, which they used to entice Kenyans to vote them into power, Osotsi said that the government had made a U-turn on addressing the high cost of living that has plagued Kenyans for eons.

"They said that whatever happens, they are going to reduce the cost of living. All these excuses we are getting that it is an international factor, it is beyond us, is the same explanation that the Uhuru government gave and they dismissed it and they said that food must be provided...they have failed," he said.

According to Ososti, the expense of living has been compounded by a rise in taxation rates "in a very unprecedented manner," which was established in the Finance Act 2023 to restore the nation's struggling economy.

He also addressed the issue of borrowing, which President Ruto promised to reduce but has instead outperformed his predecessors in the same time span.

On the most pressing yet contentious subject of affordable housing for Kenyans, Osotsi stated that the government has made little progress and is even expanding its tentacles to counties and interfering with their functions.

"They said that they are going to construct 250,000 houses every year. Have they constructed even a single house? No. Instead, they have modified that programme to take it to the county and taken over what counties are supposed to do because housing is a devolved function," he said.
