The government is urging Kenyans who had applied for passports to collect them after the immigration department printed a total of 87,000 passports since the Nyayo House crackdown.

“We have about 87,000 passports that have been produced and Kenyans have not come for them. We have cleaned up the Nyayo house. Please go and collect your passports,” Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Julius Bitok said.

This is even as the immigration department races against time to clear the historic backlog of the coveted travel document that has recently caused uproar in the country.

Kindiki has been making impromptu visits to Nyayo house, his latest visit being Monday 11 where he re-affirmed the government’s commitment to clearing passport backlog at Nyayo House vowing sustained reforms to stamp out graft.

“There is no turning back on the operational and policy instituted at the immigration department. The backlog must be cleared, and all subsequent applications processed expeditiously,” he said.
