The Agriculture CS, Mithika Linturi, has raised a call for the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza. This demand was voiced in a recent statement, where Linturi emphasized that the citizens of Meru have unequivocally expressed their wish for Mwangaza's removal from office. Additionally, he urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua not to interfere in favor of Mwangaza if she encounters impeachment proceedings.
"Meru is bigger than the Deputy President," Linturi emphasized. "I believe DP Rigathi Gachagua should heed the voice of the Meru people, who are resolutely calling for Kawira's departure."
Linturi issued this statement following his visit to the hospitalized Meru Deputy Governor, Isaac Mutuma, who has been embroiled in persistent conflicts with Governor Mwangaza. Mutuma was receiving treatment at Karen Hospital.
The CS implored Meru's Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to proceed with the required measures, highlighting the increasingly unsustainable nature of the situation. He underscored that the constitution provides for the impeachment of a county executive when deemed necessary.
Linturi's pursuit of the Meru governorship, where he secured the second position after Mwangaza, adds another dimension to this evolving political drama. In a recent gathering, numerous Meru Members of Parliament also voiced their discontent with the governor, reiterating their position that Mwangaza should step down from office.
"We've stated it clearly to the people of Meru: Mwangaza should not remain as the county boss," declared Mpuru Aburi, one of the MPs present at the meeting.
