According to A government source, 34 people have been killed in Benin after an illegal fuel dump exploded.
"A serious fire occurred in the town of Seme Podji," said Interior Minister Alassane Seidou, addressing reporters.
"Unfortunately, 34 people have died, including two babies." Their remains are burnt because the fire was started with smuggled fuel."

According to the minister, another 20 individuals, including several in critical condition, were being treated in hospitals.
Nigeria is a large oil and gas producer, and gasoline smuggling is frequent along its borders, particularly while the government maintains a subsidy to keep petrol prices low.
