Kenyan schools have closed for the holidays. Children are going to be home for weeks till late February. Parents still have to work to be able to provide for their families. Here are some of the tips to keep your children safe.

1. make sure they know your contact details. Making kids memorize your number and address will be very instrumental in case they get lost or get injured when they are out playing and cannot find their way back home. Having that information will also help them call home for help in case they feel in danger.

2. teach them about boundaries. Introducing boundaries at an early age is very important. Allow them the freedom to play in the neighbourhood but tell them that they cannot cross a certain point. They have to play within the selected area.

3. teach them about stranger danger. Kids are innocent and will follow anyone who appears friendly or offers them goodies. It is vital to teaching kids not to accept gifts or talk to strangers. Strangers can use sweets and other foods to lure them. Some even pretend to know the parents.

4. teach them about the buddy system. Teach your kids to always play or walk in groups. Kidnappers often target kids that appear lost or alone because they know it is easy to control one than control many. They should never play alone or far away from their friends.

5. encourage them to say something when they see something. It would be best if you did this because kidnappings have been rising recently, and very few resources are available to handle the issues. Kidnappers often stalk their victims before they strike. Encourage them to say something if they see anything suspicious. Doing This can help parents recognize a threat and act on it before something terrible happens
