Members of Parliament affiliated with the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition now want Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u to resign from office failure to which they will impeach him.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Daybreak Show on Thursday, Tongaren MP John Chikati and his Mbeere North counterpart Geoffrey Ruku said the CS had failed in implementing President William Ruto’s agenda and was instead exposing the regime to ridicule from the Opposition.

Chikati who is also the Ford Kenya Party Secretary General accused CS Ndung’u of incompetency, citing the delay in disbursement of the NG-CDF to facilitate bursaries for learners saying he was knowingly frustrating parliamentarians.

“We will impeach him very well, he is not performing. This is not the first time that Prof Ndung’u has done that. Last year it was war between Parliament and the Treasury before CDF was released,” he said.

“Students have reported to schools and there is no money and most of them have been sent home since 80 per cent of county students depend on CDF for disbursement of bursaries. As far as people might want to blame the government, the Ministry heads must take responsibility.”

Chikati added: “We as Ford Kenya MPs, are going to initiate signatures immediately for his removal. One year down the line he has shown incompetence and has given room to people to criticize the president.”

The MP further accused Prof Ndung’u of impracticality in handling finance affairs saying that despite being in office for more than a year, there is nothing to show for it.

“There is no communication between him and MPs on the CDF delay, that tells you about rudeness, lack of planning and communication,” he said.

“CS Ndung’u knows very well that in January students normally open; he is so erratic, he speaks very good English and economic jargon instead of practical actionable steps.”

Lawmaker Ruku on his part referred to the CS as a ‘crybaby’ as he faulted him for lacking solid management skills to help the president succeed.

According to him, the CS has occasionally informed the public about the economic crisis of the nation instead of offering solutions.

“If Treasury CS Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u is unable to do his job, he should resign because one of his key roles as CS treasury is liability management of the country. We will not allow him to fail the president,’ he noted.

“It is reckless for the Treasury CS to wake up and tell the nation that we are in a serious crisis. Tell us we have a serious crisis but at the same time tell us what you are doing about the crisis."

"Give us concrete steps which you are taking for the country to come out of the crisis…tell us what you have done for the last year. All the time he is a crybaby, this country is not about being a crybaby, it must be driven forward by innovative thinking,” Ruku added.

On his part, Azimio coalition Secretary for Political Affairs Fred Okango, who was also on the show, faulted the Kenya Kwanza legislators as he laughed off the new push to impeach the CS.

Okango slammed the MPs saying they are now feeling the heat and bearing the consequences of appointing unsuitable leaders.

"The Kenya Kwanza MPs want to impeach some CSs and yet they are the ones who endorsed them without caring to look at the suitability, competency and personal integrity of some of these people they are now wanting to remove from office…why are they crying now?" Okango noted.

"We are very happy as Azimio to help them remove any CS who is incompetent and unsuitable to hold office. This is their Damascus moment."
