Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has expressed willingness to lead Kenya's opposition if Raila Odinga assumes the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson role. Drawing on his experience and his challenges, Babu stated that he is well-prepared to take over from Raila in holding the government accountable.

Babu praised Raila for his significant contributions to Kenya's democracy and voiced hope for Raila's successful bid for the AUC position. Despite his opposition to the current broad-based government, Babu emphasized his unwavering loyalty and respect for Raila.

During an interview on TV 47 on Friday, August 23, the youthful MP Babu Owino stated that he has the experience to succeed Raila Odinga. Babu explained that this would depend on Raila assuming executive duties at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa. He further elaborated that if Raila becomes the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson, he would take on Raila's role in holding the government accountable.

"In the event that Baba goes to AUC then the Bible says there is a time and season for everything. In the event that Baba goes to AU to be the AUC chairperson; when Baba goes to Addis Ababa kwa Baba then that moment the day that he goes there is no harm in leaving Babu to be the leader; to be the chief opposition leader," he stated.

He claimed that he had already declared to be the chief opposition leader as preparation, arguing that experience doesn't come with age.

'It comes with challenges that you've gone through. Babu Owino has lived his 35 years and experienced many challenges and got solutions to those challenges," Babu opined.

Babu Owino explained that, despite his opposition to the broad-based government, Raila's contributions to Kenya's democracy should not be overlooked. He hoped the former prime minister would secure the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson position in February next year.

"Baba Raila Amollo Odinga has been my political leader, he is my party leader and I respect him so much. I've worked under him, for him and with him; he knows me inside out and I know him inside. He's still my leader.
