Rapper Octopizzo has criticized traditional media for allegedly promoting a false narrative regarding the ongoing impeachment process of Kenya's Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua. Last week, a motion to impeach the deputy president was introduced in parliament, and it has now reached the public participation stage at the Bomas of Kenya, where citizens from various backgrounds are sharing their views. Tensions escalated yesterday when drama unfolded as self-proclaimed Gen Z leader Morara Kebaso was attacked by hired goons, forcing him to flee the venue.
Traditional media has been actively involved throughout the impeachment process, providing coverage of opinions from across the country to capture a wide range of perspectives. However, this has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some see the media's focus as a mere distraction from the unfolding political saga, while others believe it is an attempt to divert attention from the rumored Adani takeover of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Rapper Octopizzo has been critical of the government, especially in his songs, and also throughout the entire movement, he has been on the forefront to speak on issues since he comes from Kibera.
He shared his views about the media on his X platform. "Ni mimi pekee ama hii shugli ya impeachment media inaipush sana! It’s disappointing to see traditional media consistently aligning with government narratives, especially now during the Vice President's impeachment process. Where was the media when the public's voice was crucial during the debate on the Finance Bill? Na mbona finance bill haikua na public participation bomas na makaratasi za kujaza in constituency level; and where are they as key parastatals facing privatization?"
