Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has publicly declared his support for Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2027 presidential bid, signaling a notable shift away from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) led by Raila Odinga. Speaking on Wednesday, February 26, Babu praised Kalonzo’s unwavering loyalty to the Azimio la Umoja coalition, highlighting his support for Raila in the 2013, 2017, and 2022 elections without seeking personal gain.

Babu argued that Kalonzo’s consistent dedication deserves recognition, likening his political journey to that of former presidents Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi, and Uhuru Kenyatta—leaders who initially faced skepticism but ultimately rose to the presidency. According to Babu, it would be unjust to sideline Kalonzo after years of selfless service to a shared political cause.

He emphasized his personal understanding of Kalonzo’s values and questioned the morality of abandoning a leader who has consistently prioritized unity and humility. “We must have humanity,” Babu concluded, underscoring the need for fairness and appreciation in political alliances.

Babu’s endorsement marks a significant development within the Azimio coalition, hinting at emerging realignments as the 2027 general election approaches. With Raila Odinga’s political succession becoming an increasingly urgent matter, Babu’s support adds momentum to the growing calls for Kalonzo to be considered a top contender for the presidency. This move could have far-reaching implications for coalition dynamics and the broader political landscape ahead of the next election.
