The ruling coalition Kenya Kwanza Alliance criticized the Azimio la Umoja Monday protests that led to the destruction of property and loss of lives.

The Alliance claimed in a press conference on Tuesday that retired president Uhuru Kenyatta was sponsoring chaos to obstruct ongoing investigations into the looting of the nation's finances during his administration. Kimani Ichung'wa, the majority leader of the National Assembly, led the press conference.

According to the MP, Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake brother Raila Odinga are organizing the protests to sabotage current inquiries into the crimes perpetrated by the former administration.

He continued by saying that what Raila was doing was only comparable to what the North Rift bandits were doing. He declared that Mr. Odinga must be held accountable.

He referred to the protestors as young boys who were paid to riot and asked the Inspector General of police to arrest not only them but also their sponsors and Raila Odinga.

According to the MPs, Raila and his Azimio La Umoja brigade broke the law by declaring an illegal public holiday.

The Alliance also termed the Monday showdown 'chaotic' and hypocritical that was nothing but a campaign of "large-scale urban banditry".

Ichungwa accused Raila of leading "a battalion of hooligans and goons into violent confrontation, looting, and destruction under the pretext of peaceful demonstration".

"Raila has indeed indicted himself as an economic terrorist and saboteur, a serial hypocritical liar and failed leader," Ichung'wa said.

Ichungwa, a Kikuyu Member of Parliament, questioned why no petition was delivered to any government office as earlier promised.
