Kahawa Law Court has filed charges against six Azimio members who were detained on Monday for allegedly participating in an unlawful assembly.

James Opiyo Wandayi, a Ugunja-based lawmaker, Amina Laura Mnyazi, a senator from Malindi, Stewart Madzayo, a senator from Kilifi, Richard Chonga, George Yogo Obure, and Esther Oromi are the suspects who are accused of participating in an illegal assembly with people who aren't in court.
They are suspected of carrying out the crime on March 20 at 10 a.m. in Nairobi close to City Hall Way.
A second count of malicious property damage is brought against them. According to the charge sheet, on the same dates and at the same location, along with individuals who were not present in court, Joyce Nyambura's VW Passat, which was worth Sh1.1 million, was wilfully and illegally destroyed.
Before Senior Magistrate Gideon Oenga, the six appeared and refuted the accusations.
With their attorneys, including Peter Kaluma, Dan Maanzo, Danstan Omari, and Sam Nyaberi, they requested that the suspects be released on a light bail of Sh50,000.
Two of the accused are MCAs, and the other two are senatorial and parliamentary members.
Attorney Kaluma contended that Wandayi is the fifth person in the governmental hierarchy and a minority leader in the parliament.
He claimed that Wandayi runs the proceedings in Parliament and that he was required to be.

“We are seeking their release on a personal bond. Court to consider what is on the ground. There is political heat and let’s not escalate it. Release them on 50,000 bail,” Omari told the court.
