Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyong'o and his deputy Mathew Owili, on Monday, led residents in anti-government protests.

He held roadside addresses where alongside other leaders they urged residents to turn out in numbers as the demos began.

Kisumu had been peaceful for the better part of the morning, despite the protests having been expected to begin as early as 6 am.

Most busy streets remain deserted as businesses remained closed in the city that is an Opposition stronghold.

The anti-government demonstrations that started on Monday last week will now occur every Monday and Thursday, according to opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, March,21, at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Nairobi, Odinga called the demonstrations that took place in Nairobi and other parts of the country "immensely successful" and vowed to continue standing his ground until President William Ruto complies with their demands.

Mr Odinga blamed the police for the disorder and violence that he claimed led to the deaths of two persons and the injuries of numerous more during the protests.

"Numerous protesters were hurt, and the police brutally murdered at least two unarmed Kenyans. We send our deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost loved ones as a result of police brutality. We will stand behind those families and do everything in our power to see that their loved ones receive justice "Odinga stated.
