Kenyan Ports Authority is set to face off against Rwanda Energy Group in their inaugural match of the FIBA Africa Zone Five women’s club championship at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.

The victor will advance to the finals in Cairo this December, joining the reigning champions, Alexandria Sporting Club of Egypt, as well as top-tier teams from the remaining Zones.

Equity Bank Hawks, the other Kenyan representative in this eight-day championship, will step onto the court on Sunday, competing against Tanzania's Vijana Queens.

The victorious team will advance to the finals in Cairo in December, where they will contend with the defending champions, Alexandria Sporting Club of Egypt, as well as top-performing teams from other Zones.

With the absence of the Egyptians, the Kenyan powerhouses, placed in Group 'B' alongside REG, Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa (JKT) Stars of Tanzania, Nile Legends of South Sudan, and JKL Dolphins of Uganda, are considered frontrunners.

Meanwhile, the bankers, grouped in 'A' alongside Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) of Rwanda and Gladiators of Burundi, are poised for a competitive run.

In the previous edition, KPA engaged in a hard-fought final against Alexandria Sporting of Egypt, ultimately falling short with a scoreline of 78-68. This showdown took place in the Tanzanian port city of Dar es Salaam last October.
