A key element of Mara Sugar's recent successful run in the second division is their ability to stay up with National Super League leaders Mathare United, according to head coach Godfrey Naibei.
After experiencing setbacks recently, the Millers have recovered with three straight victories; Naibei believes this will persuade his players that they can contend with the Slum Boys for the championship this year.
"It is a motivation for us all as a team. It keeps us moving on and focused especially for the boys and the technical bench, everybody now knows that we are on the right track to make sure that we keep the pace," said Naibei.
However, Naibei is happy with his team's performance in their 3-0 victory over Gusii FC last weekend, as goals from David Owino and Brian Ochieng gave Mara all three points at Awendo Stadium.

"I'd like to say kudos to the boys for working smart. It was a good show from Gusii side, they gave us a good fight and their fighting spirit was good but the boys stood up to the task and made sure that we won the match," said Naibei.
Since Francis Xavier left as head coach, the tactician has been in charge of Mara on an interim basis. Under his direction, Mara has won four games, drawn two, and lost two.
Naibei and recently hired head coach Vincent Nyaberi will collaborate to bring elite football to Awendo Stadium.
When they play Rainbow FC on Saturday, Mara is currently in second place on the log with 23 points from eleven games—three behind leaders Mathare—will be looking to continue their impressive run.
