Following nearly seven years of delay, President William Ruto has now stated that the construction of Ruring'u Stadium in Nyeri County will be finished by the end of the year.

During the opening of an affordable housing project in Nyeri town, the President announced the new timelines and reaffirmed the government's commitment to seeing that the facility is completed, even though he acknowledged that it had become an eyesore.

Simultaneously, Ruto notified the new contractor overseeing the 20,000-seat venue, telling them to finish the outstanding construction work by December or risk losing their job.

"We have this stadium here, which has become Nyeri's eyesore. We've ensured the facility's work is done by the end of this year.

"We've brought in a new contractor, and I've warned him that the work must be done by December, and if he will not manage, we will have no other business with him than sacking him," Ruto told Nyeri residents.

The President said the facility's completion would significantly boost the area's future talent.

"We've so many talents here in Nyeri and we want to grow them. We want our youth to churn out their talents and completion of this stadium would be a massive boost towards them realizing their potential in the space of sports."

With a facelift that will likely cost the taxpayer hundreds of millions of dollars, the facility will soon be the most prominent sports complex in the Mount Kenya region.

Owing to Nyeri County's high altitude, the stadium will serve as a training ground for aspiring athletes and host football and athletic events.
