According to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), Former World Under-20 champion Rodgers Kwemoi has been banned for six years for doping.

The AIU stated that they warned Kwemoi of irregularities identified in his ABP profile and were considering charging him. Still, he did not answer within the specified time frame, causing the doping watchdog to take harsh action against him.

The suspension will be retroactive to August 8, 2023, and Kwemoi's competition results from July 18, 2016, to August 8, 2023, will be nullified.

The Japan-based athlete will lose his Istanbul Half Marathon championship, a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and his junior world 10,000m title from 2016.

“All the athlete’s results obtained since 18 July 2016 until the date that the provisional suspension was imposed are disqualified pursuant to Rules 9, 10.1, and 10.10 of the 2021 Anti-Doping Rules, with all resulting consequences including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points, prizes, and prize and appearance money,” the AIU statement read.

The 25-year-old athlete is a member of the Kogyo Corporate squad in Japan, but he divides his time between Kogyo and the Global Communication Camp in Kaptagat, Kenya.

The athlete may contest the verdict by filing an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
