The construction of the Talanta Sports Stadium in Nairobi is making significant progress. President William Ruto visited the site on Tuesday afternoon to review the ongoing work and announced that the facility will be completed by the end of next year. This timeline is set to ensure the stadium is ready to host some of the matches for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in 2027.
"We are here today to inspect the progress of the stadium's construction. To expedite the work and meet our deadline, we will hire more workers," said President Ruto. He emphasized that the stadium will not only be a key venue for the Afcon matches but also a major boost to Kenya's sports infrastructure.
The President highlighted that this project is part of a broader plan to enhance Kenya's sporting profile, providing an iconic facility and significant infrastructure improvements for Nairobi and the entire country. He also mentioned that the government is committed to developing a comprehensive sports and creative industry infrastructure master plan.
This includes upgrading various sports facilities to offer high-quality training environments for athletes and fostering sporting talent nationwide.
