Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential candidate Hussein Mohammed has stressed the importance of transparency ahead of the upcoming FKF elections. Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mohammed called on the Electoral Board, which was unanimously approved during the federation's Special General Meeting (SGM) last month, to carry out its responsibilities impartially.
"It was crucial for the delegates to set the election date. I have no issues with the electoral board. We want to support them and ensure they perform their duties without any intimidation. All we want is a free and fair election where everyone is satisfied," Mohammed said.
Hussein also highlighted the need for further discussion on the eligibility criteria in the revised 2020 Electoral Code to ensure fairness. "The politics of exclusion instead of inclusivity is where we are going wrong. The rules in the electoral code are flawed because they are designed to exclude others, allowing one person to dominate the competition. This is unacceptable in a democratic country," he pointed out.
As Vice Chairman of Murang’a SEAL, Mohammed emphasized that much more needs to be done to fully professionalize football in Kenya. "Globally, football has become a business that benefits all stakeholders. But in Kenya, no one benefits from football. It’s time to change this, and it’s essential for everyone to realize that the days of treating football as just an extracurricular activity are over," he stated.
Mohammed officially launched his campaign for the FKF presidency last Wednesday during a vibrant ceremony at the Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi.
