Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Mohamed Salah aims to play at the highest level into his late 30s and is focused on breaking Premier League and club records, despite ongoing uncertainty about his future. The Egyptian forward made his stance clear after scoring and providing two assists in Liverpool's 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.
"No one at the club has spoken to me yet about contracts, so I’m just playing this season and will see what happens at the end," Salah told Sky Sports.
Salah is 32, but Carragher doesn’t see that as an obstacle for the forward, nor should Liverpool. "I’m not sure this will be his last year. Mo Salah is a bit like Cristiano Ronaldo," Carragher said on The Gary Neville Podcast. "Most footballers think about finishing at 35, but I believe Salah is aiming to continue until his late 30s, winding down only then."

Carragher added, "He’s focused on breaking every record he can, whether in the Premier League or at Liverpool. I find it hard to imagine Salah playing in the Saudi league next season; he’s performing too well at one of the biggest clubs in the world."
In July 2022, Salah signed a new three-year contract, reportedly making him the highest-paid player in Liverpool's history, earning around £350,000 ($460,000) per week. Last year, Liverpool reportedly turned down a £150 million offer from Saudi club Al-Ittihad for Salah. Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has scored 214 goals, placing him fifth on the club’s all-time scoring list.
New Liverpool manager Arne Slot declined to comment on Salah’s future after the win against United. When asked about Salah's remarks, Slot said, "There are a lot of 'ifs.' Right now, he’s one of our players, and I’m very happy with that. He played exceptionally well today. I don’t discuss player contracts, but I could talk for hours about how Mo played."
