The eighth edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) will take place from February 1 to 28, 2024, across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, according to Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe. This biennial tournament features only locally-based players, excluding high-profile footballers who play in Europe.

It will be the first time East Africa hosts a continental tournament for national teams and is seen as a warm-up for the three countries ahead of their joint hosting of the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Motsepe recently visited three Kenyan national stadiums, two of which are currently undergoing renovations, as they are set to host matches during the event. After leading a CAF Executive Committee meeting, Motsepe expressed satisfaction with the progress and commitment of the host nations. He highlighted how the tournament will enhance football infrastructure in the region while attracting tourists and boosting local economies.

The qualifying matches for the 19-team tournament are scheduled to begin on October 25 and conclude in December 2023. Senegal is the reigning CHAN champion, having defeated Algeria 5-4 on penalties in the 2023 final. Since the competition's inception in 2009, Morocco and DR Congo have each claimed the CHAN title twice.
